I read it to mean that if we hope to elect smart and good people to public office, we have to make sure that people in our country are well educated.

With proper educations, public officials wouldn’t even be necessary.

I think there is a relationship where dependency is almost desired to create in other people- for “job security”, but also there is a desire to be (at least partially) dependent so you don’t have to do all the work. It is probable that one couldn’t do all the work!

Not really sure how this applies to public officials just yet. I am just beginning my journey of grappling with civics from the standpoint of a land owner. Civics wasn’t a part of my “education”. It may have been offered, but never required. It may be smart that some things are required, in retrospect.

At heart, i retain a form of anarchy as an ideal- made possible with proper education and self understanding- related to ethics and exchange of services and goods.

So that’s where my first sentence comes from.

It’s all weird. A big deal and at the same time I feel like this experience is just a self healing wound (which makes it not such a big deal).
